Like so many other sporting activities that you can practise in Manzanares El Real, fishing is one of those pleasures that you can enjoy in different places, at your leisure.

Where do you want to fish? Do you prefer the fast waters of the Manzanares River and enjoying the river banks? Or do you prefer the stillness of the Santillana Reservoir, with rocky areas and beaches in the summer season?

The natural area in which you practice recreational fishing is much more important than you think, and its rules are essential to ensure its conservation. Thus, you need to remember that:

The fish allowed for the activity are: Barbels, common carps, Iberian nases and pikes.
You can fish all around the year, an hour before the sunrise and an hour after the
You can have a maximum of two fishing rods positioned for fishing at the same time.
It is prohibited to make fires, camping and leaving waste in the fishing areas.

Fishing Areas in Manzanares El Real

Here are the two natural areas where fishing is allowed, with their specific stretches, so you don’t miss a thing.

In the Santillana Reservoir

SECTION A: From the Samburiel Stream Bridge, left bank, and the Manzanares River to the bank of the Santillana Reservoir, defined by the route of the cattle track or old Madrid–Manzanares road (perpendicular to the reservoir, behind the Civil Guard barracks).

SECTION B: On the left bank of the reservoir, from the mouth of the Chozas Stream to the point 650 meters from the dam wall. Fishing is prohibited here, except by express authorization from the Regional Department of Environment, Territorial Planning and Sustainability for official federated competitions.

SECTION C: Right bank of the reservoir, from the Samburiel Stream Bridge to the point marked at the level of the Espinarejo estate. Permits are valid for fishing in either Sections A or C, regardless of where they were issued.

In the Manzanares River

Manzanares I – Section I: Between the municipal supply dam of Manzanares and the stretch of the river located at the El Tranco parking lot (end of La Pedriza Avenue).

Manzanares I – Section II: From the lower limit of Section I to its mouth at the Santillana Reservoir (catch and release only).
