Following this short, easy route, you\u2019ll pass through the historic centre and, after crossing the \u2018Monta\u00f1ero roundabout\u2019 and walking along Calle de La Paz, you\u2019ll reach the viewpoint overlooking the Santillana Reservoir.<\/p>\n
From where you are, it\u2019s a 10-minute walk to the viewpoint; once you\u2019ve crossed the bridge, the panoramic view is \u201cspectacular\u201d \u2013 undoubtedly one of the most breathtaking in the world. The granite massif of La Pedriza lies ahead (featuring the second and third highest peaks in the Community of Madrid after Pe\u00f1alara: Cabezas de Hierro Mayor and Menor).<\/p>\n
You can walk around the reservoir for 2 km; at the end, you\u2019ll come to the gate of a private estate and will have to return along the same path (it\u2019s not a circular route). The reservoir is one of the main sites for the conservation, nesting and migration of waterbirds in the Community of Madrid.<\/p>\n
Both swimming and boating (even without a motor) are prohibited, as it supplies drinking water to Madrid.
